About Ritu
Artist Statement

My work has always been revolved around the idea of urbanization. The skyscrapers, 3 Dimensional Architectural forms always inspire me. This promoted the urban imagery with juxtaposition of indoor and outdoor spaces appearing all across my work. The repetitiveness of the forms, geometric cut-outs intersects, diffuse, and turn illusory. I try to bring 3d illusion from different angles with different techniques.
The painting is endowed with the use of multiple perspectives and 3D ideas. The balance of reflection and transparency on the floor gradually stimulate a nervous anticipation to emphasize its aura of vacancy.
The abstract, stirred near geometry on canvas looked pieced of colored papers including metallic ones of varied smoothness, crinkling and texture blends the sculptured impact with the flat and the painterly. The square formed acquires many in-between permutations, angles, and dimensions, while the radiance in the surface merges with the reflected one and constantly transforms the eye of the moving viewer.
Though I experiment with lot of mediums, but majority of my works are Acrylic on canvas. Compositions are non-figurative and non-naturalistic with vibrant color pallet. My style is a combination of cubism and modernism. Masters like Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Mark Rothko etc. deeply inspired me but through many years, I have developed my own distinct style.
I have created huge Wall Murals with my style. Wood or sometimes MDF board were being used for cut-outs and then painted on with 3D geometric forms.
I work with different mediums and tools for multi layering of paint which gives it opacity, then crisp sharp edges called hard edge, emerges out of the smooth surface with plastic effect looks interesting. I work with masking tape, spatula, and brush. Application of multi layering of paint gives it opacity. After that, the tapes are removed, and crisp sharp edges emerge out of the smooth surface with plastic effect called Hard edge. This technique gives me a lot of pleasure but there are always limitations as it requires a lot of time, material, and patience. The accidental crooked lines are a real threat and challenge me to work harder for the finesse. Beside these geometric forms, I also work with glass and steel like material which play a role of reflectors.
In the past 12 years, I have been involved in many solo and group shows. I continue to pursue every avenue so that I may share what I love to do with others. Art imitates life and is a continual process of growth, experiences, and curiosity.
